Anti-Virus is Dead?

In light of the increased number of Data Breaches there is a lot of talk about how Anti-Virus solutions are dead.  New technologies touting Behavior Analysis and Machine Learning are all the rage.  While those solutions do introduce exciting new capabilities that are lacking in what has traditionally been thought of as AV, the best End Point Protection tools should leverage new and traditional techniques.  While traditional AV may be less adept at detecting Zero Day threats or Attackers “Living of the Land”, how many of those threats do you encounter on a given day? My guess is that you see considerably more activity from Script Kiddies using tools that have long ago been seen in the wild. This is an area where AV still excels.

Defense in Depth is a critical strategy in protecting Information Systems and Anti-Virus is still very relevant within that approach.  Not only will it help protect your organization it will save your incident responders and end users from countless hours of lost productivity.
